Technical Tips for viewing the site…..

I can’t see the whole page...

If you need to scroll a lot in order to see everything, it’s because your resolution is at a smaller setting than the site was designed at.  The site is best viewed at 1600X1200 pixels and 32 bit color quality.  I realize some older hardware isn’t capable of this, so use the highest resolution and best color quality you have available.

The links seem messed up...

Because the site is so dynamic, URLs often change.  Set your browser to always check for a new page.  Keeping your cache cleaned out helps as well.  If you click a link and don’t get to the page you expected, clicking “refresh” will often solve the problem.

Pictures or text don’t line up, or seem out of place...

I designed the site using Internet Explorer (IE) 6 updated with Service Pack (SP) 1.  If you’re using Netscape or an older version if IE, you may experience problems with alignment (things will overlap or appear in the wrong place).  In addition, for Windows XP users the most recent update is SP 2.  It’s always a good idea to keep your software up to date, and it’s free anyway.  Follow the link below to make sure you’re running the most current version of IE.

You wish you had a cool Webcam, just like mine…

Boy, have I learned a lot about Webcams.  Money can solve any technical problem, but if you’re like me you don’t part with it unless absolutely necessary.  The quick and dirty way, if you can get away with it is a USB camera.  They are the least expensive and freeware is available to post your pics to the web.  Their shortcoming is that they must be located relatively close to your computer, usually about 12’-15’.  That wouldn't work for me so I‘m using a couple of VEO Velocity Ethernet cameras with good results.  An Ethernet camera needs 120V power nearby, but can transmit data up to 300’.  We couldn’t find any (simple) software to post the pics, so my brother Brian wrote some.  It’s more difficult, but if this is the route you need to take I’ll offer what I’ve learned.  If you want a camera, but don’t want to maintain a website, contact me…..I can help.
